Permission
You have my permission to disregard the meditation I wrote and do something else:
Like
Walk along the side of a stream endlessly
Like
Go through a laundry list of affirmations in your head, examining and discarding each one
Like
Planning your to do list
Like
Trying (and failing) to just watch your breath and think no thoughts
Like
Criticize yourself for doing the meditation all wrong
Like
Think about how little money you make and how impossible change feels
Like
Remind yourself how much you have changed and progressed in the last 90+ days
Like
Wonder why you refuse to call anyone about your medical care
Like
Determine yourself hopeless, or flawless
Like
Open your mind to the many ways that you may have been right
Like
Beat yourself up over all the ways that you have been wrong
Like
Say one more minute, one more minute, one more minute
Like
Allowing yourself to remember how Little you really Have To be doing
Like
Remember how for now, you can be doing whatever you want and can afford, and no one is on your back
Like
Reflect on how beautiful is the world and the day really, in spite of war and fascism
Like
Reflect on how this world more than ever needs your mindfulness
Like
Wait for the bell to sound
Ring-ing-ing-ing-ing-nnggg-tsssk
Like
Open your eyes and begin again
Like
Grab a pen and write down your realization or new plan
Like
Rise and greet the sun, the room, your companions, your mess, your cat
Like
Remind yourself to try to remember this peace throughout the day
Like
Wish you had true freedom, not just this limited form
Like
Getting back to work, and looking forward to the next meditation
Things you have my permission to try in the next meditation:
Liking yourself
Liking your life
Liking your neighbors
Liking your family
Liking your solitude
Praying for peace
