Tim Walz, ‘America’s Dad’ on Trump’s threat to use the US Military (not the national guard) to do violence on American Citizens (on American soil, too) in Green Bay, Wisconsin Yesterday

I have more notes I’ve collected to share but this is just a quick and dirty post because of all the urgency and I’m sharing across 3 websites and 2 social media profiles these days while trying to crank out hundreds of postcards and some letters to voters:

‘America’s Dad’ and Vice Presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, Tim Walz in Green Bay, Wisconsin yesterday, In minutes 19-21.:

“Yesterday he went on Fox News; that’s a safe place for him; and suggested he is going to send the military against the enemy from within. Now I want you think about it. In other words, against Americans who don’t support him. Just to be clear, if any of your neighbors or friends or anybody thinks about that you know who he’s talking about? He’s talking about you. He’s talking about you. He’s talking about someone who comes to a rally to express their love and their commitment to our democracy, Donald Trump sees that as an enemy. So I have to tell you as someone who wore this nation’s uniform proudly, as someone who now is the commander and chief of the Minnesota National Guard, the idea of sending US military personnel against American citizens makes me sick to my stomach. I’ll tell you what, we’ll let the lawyers decide if what he said was treason, but what I know is, it’s a call for violence, plain and simple, and it’s pretty damn unamerican if you ask me. So look, if anybody wants to pretend that this is a normal conversation that Donald Trump is having, just dispel that. The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Millie said, no one has ever been more dangerous to this country than Donald Trump, and he is a fascist to his core. Let that sink in and don’t be a damn bit afraid of saying it, because that’s exactly who he is, that’s exactly who he is. But here’s the thing, we get to do something about it. If you’re like me you’re sick and tired of this guy, ready to turn the page on him, and we can do that by making Kamala Harris the President of the United States.” [emphasis added]

~We just need one or two voters per precinct in some states~ he mentions

This is what got my upstairs neighbor to vote in the off-year 2023 Kentucky governor’s race. At an Andy Beshear volunteer event they said that in 2019, that had beaten the widely reviled (even in the GOP) Matt Bevin by an average of just 1.5 votes per precinct. I told him that and he was like ‘OK I’ll vote if you drive me’ (he won’t drive if he’s had even like one beer….). Andy “We will get through this, we will get through this together” Beshear won by more than 1.5 per precinct in 2023 (his catch phrase from daily COVID emergency briefings). His new PAC In This Together is active in the election, any runoffs and whatnot and the next one. They say: “That’s why In This Together PAC will support good people and good candidates running for local, statewide and federal office in red or purple states who demonstrate a commitment to leading with empathy and compassion and the backbone to always do what’s right, regardless of politics.“

Reach out to people you wouldn’t normally talk about politics with, online and in person. You have the power to show those around you how the personal is political. You know what matters to them in their daily lives, and you can connect it to the values and policies that we are fighting for up and down the ballot. I know this works because it worked on me.”
