You Can’t Crush Them Out (3 poems)

You Don’t Have to Write / Fill Up the Time

You don’t have to write poems
But you must fill up the times of your life
Finding meaning, not boredom
Health, not drowning in whiskey

Whether waking at 3am or Noon
Whether peace or war
Whether government is rational or destructive
Still you must fill up the time

The only alternatives, addiction or suicide
One stops the clock
The other seizes control
So you no longer worry over
How to fill up the time

Tick Tock
Let it Drop
Each Moment
You Decide

You Can’t Crush Them Out / Having Feelings

Strength.
Awareness.
Letting go.
Marking progress.
You were much deeper down in pain in November
Having feelings
Being aware of them
You can’t crush them out;
Not any more
Accept the feelings
Live with them without struggle
It’s not depression
Or is it?
Dysthymia…
Stop problematizing conscious awareness and feeling
Other types antidepressants untried…
Let’s wait and see
See how no medications shapes up
After 90 days

Book of Days / Begin at Dawn

12/27/2025
Where does one day begin and the next end?
When pulling a double shift–
Or up so late you can’t sleep, pushing 48 hours
Each predawn a new beginning
Each sunrise a revelation
Each sleep time a blessed relief
Follow the circular orbit of our moon
This day: a waxing crescent, 47%, moon in Aries, so the app tells me
Dawn begun, sunup in 30 minutes sharp–
Growing in strength & peace
12/28/2025
Begin another day-
Another line-
Another silent meditation-
Another postcard-
A few more hours making money-
Each day stronger, more confident
Each day older & wiser
I have a good feeling
That sobriety will stick
This Time.

It seems nobody ever clicks on them so I will stop citing my photographer/photo sources. People’s very low level of curiosity to click links continues to amaze me in a not good way.
