A poem (?) I did at a writers’ group based on this prompt. Charley said he’d like to have it for the archives (which don’t yet exist) so I’m typing it up emailing him and blogging it. The book of prompts is called “Finger Exercises for Poets” by Dorianne Laux.

The leaves of the plant, the pot
Soft round cushions and couches
Voices and a tone and traffic
Impinge from other rooms and outside
Piano
The curvature of the plant stand with its five pots
Chatter of the voice instructor upstairs
Piano and voice, piano and voice
My bottom lip chapped and cracked from the winter dryness
Not stinging now
What are we doing here?
Is this a poem?
Thinking thoughts drifting down
The globes, the lamps, the love of art
Satisfaction
Pleasance
Getting matched to a job Handshake Hedgehog AI
Thinking of texting dad
As the voice lesson goes on…..
Lovely can’t translate to print
Stirring feelings
This room, the Survival Bloc party the other day
Absence
Presence
Solace
What an unusual experience
“Warning: bigfoot area: stay on marked trails” sign, together with the art project, the littles trees, the bigfoot, the plastic moss and grass
Stop. Concentrate.
Ring toss. Ringtail. Ring around the rosy.
Stop. Conecentrate.
Memory. Middle school.
Things barely remembered
And not wanted to write about
Stir it up and move on
Danika Ann Looking for books
Charley typing
The cold outside
The voice singing wordless
The piano
The soft cushions
Stop to talk and itchy hat
Stop the critique
You didn’t pick the prompt
“When I was growing up, everyone hated the telephone company”
A line from a book
Things that everyone knows
Things that everyone shares
All the hate there is
Hate
A terrible thing to have to feel
More terrible yet to choose to feel it
Incensed, the elementals commence to mend fences outside the rentals of those they wouldn’t countenance,
My life is looking up though it’s early days yet…
41 is yet young
There is so much more to see
How will the world turn out?
Lets
Hang
On
And
See it
