You say:
Gaps in employment:
Lazy.
No facebook profile:
Dangerous.¹
Involuntary termination:
Untouchable
Banned for life –
By HR’s conventional wisdom
Then you fume about
The laziness
Of the unemployed
To yourself and on television and in government
You require intrusive personality tests
For the most ordinary of real-work jobs
See it to it that those who are a little unsteady
Get shoved deeper into the bog
You bring no one back to health
You deny all the funding and all the votes
And so your society crumbles
By your own perverse incentives
¹ I once inquired about driving for Lyft and they said that people without facebook profiles could not apply ‘to keep passengers safe’. This post is from 2012; I was off facebook from sometime in 2011 to sometime in 2015. I don’t imagine they do this any more in 2020.
